The Inside Story
NEW DELHI: A 29-year-old resident of sector-3 Pushp Vihar near Saket in south Delhi was found murdered in mysterious circumstances in Gulawati area of Bulandshahr in west Uttar Pradesh a day after he had gone missing from his office on March 7. The local B B Nagar police station in Bulandshahr had registered a case of murder. The case is likely to be transferred to Saket police station in Delhi after it emerged that the deceased was involved in a financial dispute with his business partners. Police said they are yet to question anyone in this regard.
The victim, Sanjeev Kumar Lal Das, was a co-owner of a matrimonial bureau at Lado Sarai. According to the deceased's brother, Manoj Kumar Lal Das, who is employed with the ministry of home affairs, his brother had joined the matrimonial agency sometime back as a manager. About four months back, Sanjeev took independent charge after a promoter-cum-owner fell ill.
"My brother had gone to office on March 7 and he was seen at the work place till 1.45 pm that day by his colleague Vandana. He told her that his owner was calling him downstairs. That was the last time anyone had seen Sanjeev. When he did not reach home even after 10.30pm, we began looking for him. When we called on his cellphone, it kept ringing without any answer. Several messages from his colleagues also got delivered. We continued looking for him till 8.30am the next morning,'' said Manoj.
The Das family then informed the Saket police on March 9 and a missing case was registered the next day. Sanjeev lived with his brother and sister-in-law in the capital.
His parents stay in their native place in Bihar.
"After tracking the location of the cellphone, a police team was sent to Bulandshahr. There are four police stations in Gulawati area. On March 9, the cops along with the family members searched areas under two police stations. The next morning, the police found Sanjeev's body at B B Nagar area. He was found strangulated. His cellphone was missing but his purse was intact. We are now tracking his movement from Delhi to Bulandshahr. We hope to make a breakthrough soon,'' said a senior police officer at Saket police station.
Family members told TOI that Sanjeev was a bachelor but his family was looking for a match. ``We are aware that he and his partner were not in good terms over sharing of profit amounting to Rs 1.5 lakh. We are yet to get any concrete leads in this case,'' added the officer.
