Crime Patrol: Triple murder comes to light on TV show (Episode 126, 127 on 7-8 Jun 2012)

The inside story
A startling revelation in a TV reality show by a 17-and-a-half-year-old girl that her father had murdered and buried three persons in the backyard of her house in Villupuram was found to be true when a police team on Tuesday exhumed skeletons from their premises.

“It all began when Bhargavi, daughter of Murugan, told in front of her parents at the reality show ‘Solvathellam Unmai’ on Zee Tamil channel, that her father had murdered three persons,” said S. George, additional director general of police, law and order.

“Now, we are on the lookout for Murugan and his wife Rajeswari,” he said. The girl had approached the TV channel seeking help to marry her lover.

She said Murugan poisoned and murdered a 20-year-old woman, her 22-year-old husband and the girl’s father before burying them in the backyard of their house at M. Kuchipalayam, 5 km from Villupuram town. She claimed that the incident happened sometime in 2008.

Angry with her parents as they objected her love affair, Bhargavi also alleged that her father had tried to sexually assault her. She is now staying with her lover’s parents.

The police now believe that Murugan and Rajeswari murdered Lavanya, her husband Silambarasan and her father Sekhar for the gold jewellery and cash they were carrying. Silambarasan was working at the furniture shop run by Murugan.

Sekhar, hailing from Murugan’s village, had come seeking shelter for the newly-married Lavanya and Silambarasan.

“It looks like Silambarasan’s family was against the marriage,” the police said.
The episode was filmed on May 18 and telecast on May 28. The police had also received a complaint from Lavanya’s mother Jeeva Sekhar, who was shocked by Bhargavi’s disclosure on TV.
According to Villupuram DIG K. Shanmughavel, only after forensic examination, including DNA test, the identity of the dead people can be confirmed.
