Assumed to be dead in 2006, a 36-year-old womam was today found alive, living with her new husband in Narora area of Bulandshahr district.
Santosh, a mother of four, was missing from her marital home in Khajuria area of Bulandshahr since 2005 and her 'body' was identified by her husband Bhanu Pratap Singh the following year, special director general of police Brij Lal said.
"An FIR was lodged by Singh in 2005 stating that his wife Santosh had been kidnapped. He also identified her body in 2006, following which a case of murder was registered and the matter is going on in court," Lal said.
Upon being found today, Santosh told police that she had left home because her husband would beat her, after which she had a court marriage with one Brij Lal with whom she has been living in Narora for the past four years, the officer said.
He said police has taken serious note of the matter as some innocent people including one Om Vir are in jail in connection with the case.
The SSP, Bulandshahr, has been asked to reinvestigate the matter with the court's permission and get those in jail in connection with the case freed immediately, Lal said, adding, stern action would be taken against Bhanu Pratap Singh who had identified the body of another woman as that of his wife.
A similar case of kidnapping was filed by Singh in 2000 but Santosh had turned up two months later, saying that she had gone on her own as her husband used to beat her, Lal added.
