A 26-year-old woman was shot dead in broad daylight in Roorkee on Sunday morning. Two bike-born unidentified men shot at her, when she came out from the house for taking milk, police said. She worked as receptionist in an automobile showroom in Roorkee.
The deceased has been identified as Sandhya Bhatia, who was living with her friend in a rented house in Nehru colony.
Speaking to The Pioneer, SP Rural Pramendra Dobhal said, “The body of the woman has been sent to the civil hospital for autopsy. Country made gun was used by the shooters. Her parents have refused to file a case but we have registered a case on behalf of her friend who lived with her. We have got some evidence through CCTV footage and mobile surveillance. The accused knew her very well and we will open the case soon."
Prima facie it seems to be love affair, which became the cause of the murder of the girl, added Dobhal.
Notably Sandhya’s parents lived in civil line area of Roorkee but the girl had some dispute with her parents over her personal life. So she was living separately.

16-yr-old shoots dead father’s lover
Roorkee: A 16-year-old boy and his friend, 19, were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly shooting a 25-year-old woman who was having an affair with his father. The firearm used in the crime has also been seized.
The incident happened on Sunday when Sandhya Bhatia and another woman were returning after a morning walk in Shekpuri area, near BSM Inter College, police said. Two bike-borne assailants drove up as she was entering her guest house and shot her dead before fleeing. However, the images of the assailants were captured in CCTV cameras installed nearby.
Bhatia, a single woman, used to work in a local car agency as HR personnel.
Swapan Kishore Singh, circle officer, Roorkee police, said, "The main accused is the minor son of owner of a PG house in Nehru Nagar, where the victim lived earlier. There, she allegedly developed a relationship with the owner. A couple of months ago, she moved into the present PG house at Shekhpuri." Quoting the teenager, Singh said the boy was upset as his father's extra-marital relationship disturbed his family life and his mother went into depression.
The teen thought that by eliminating Bhatia, he would secure his family's happiness. He told police, "My parents were asleep at 5 am on July 10, when I called my friend to execute the crime. I picked up my father's gun and we went to the spot on my bike. There I shot at her in the back."
During investigation, police found that Bhatia had a strained relationship with her family, who live in the Civil Lines area. When informed about her murder, they did not show up at the police station to file a complaint. The woman who was with Bhatia at the time of the attack, lodged the FIR, said Devraj Sharma, senior sub-inspector at Gangnahar police station.
