MUMBAI: Chembur police registered a murder case after a Thrissur jeweller, who
was on a business trip here, was found dead in mysterious circumstances.
Police have sent the body for post-mortem and are awaiting its report.

Kerala jeweller, Raju M who was on a business trip since January 11, was found
hanging from a ceiling fan in a hotel. The hotel room was found locked from
outside.

Police said hotel staff alerted them that Raju, who was staying at Kamla
Lodge, was locked inside. After waiting for three days, when there was no
response to calls on his mobile phone, the hotel management called up the
police. Hotel staff opened his room with a set of duplicate keys only to find
Raju hanging.

Police, after conducting a spot panchnama, moved the body to Rajawadi
hospital.

"Besides hanging, Raju's left wrist was found cut and had bled a lot. There is
confusion over his death. If he had committed suicide, how come his room was
locked from outside? Secondly, his cut wrist raised further suspicion," said a
police officer. Police said they found gold jewellery in his baggage.

Raju had gone to Delhi and Kolkata, and then came to Mumbai, police said.

>Kerala jeweller's death: Murder turns out to be suicide pact >

MUMBAI: A mysterious murder case of a youth from Kerala who was found dead
inside a lodge in Chembur has taken an interesting twist with police learning
that it was not a murder but a suicide pact hatched along with his
accomplices.

On January 15, Thrissur-based jeweller Satish Raju was found hanging inside a
room in Kamla lodge in Chembur. Raju was found hanging with a peice cloth and
his both hands were tied behind and the room door was locked from outside.
Initially police assumed that it was a suicide but as deceased's wrist was cut
and the things in the room was found disturb indicating a foul play.

Chembur police registered a murder case and started a probe and during the
course of investigation police picked up deceased's friend Martin. "Martin was
supposed to come along with Satish but he dropped the plan at last moment
which had raised a suspicon. So we arrested Martin. Martin gave us details of
deceased," said Umap Shahji, deputy commissioner of police (zone 6). Police
got hold of a cctv footage of a unidentified person entering deceased's hotel
room but the man had cleverly concealed himself from the cctv camera. Deceased
Satish was a resident of Thrissur in Kerala and had suffered huge losses in
gold jewellery business. He owed 16 kgs of gold and got bankrupt of his a
housing and personal loan.

Police inspector Jaywant Sakpal and team than traced deceased's travel plan
and got hold of cctv footages of bus depots in Coimbatore wherein deceased was
found moving with two other persons later identified as Mohammed Riyaz and
Sarvanam two noted criminals. Police started looking for Sarvanam but learned
that he was already in central jail in Tamil Nadu. Police after seeking
permission from Mumbai court arrested Sarvanam and it was Sarvanam who spill
beans on Riyaz. Police than arrested Riyaz from his native place. Riyaz during
interrogations narrated the entire story. He told that deceased Satish had
suffered losses in gold business and the jewellers were after him and was also
the banks. Satish and others hatched a plot to carry a robbery and kidnapping
in Tamil Nadu.

``Satish even paid supari money to Riyaz and Sarvanam to do robbery but their
plan flopped as those days Tamil Nadu chief Minister Jaylalitha had passed
away and there was heavy police bandobast due to law and order situation and
their plan flopped," added Shahji. It was here Satish and Riyaz decided to go

> >Man found `murdered` in lodge killed self for insurance money > >

It's a plot befitting reel life but was instead orchestrated in real life. The
Mumbai police have cracked the murder of a businessman from Kerala, whose body
was found dead inside a lodge in Chembur. With the twist that it was not a
simple murder but a but a suicide pact hatched by the victim with his friends.
And the cops have gathered conclusive evidence that the deceased had planned
the whole sequence.

On January 15, the deceased, Satish Raju, a Kerala-based jeweller was found
hanging inside a room in Kamla lodge with his both hands tied behind and the
room door was locked from outside. In the probe, police assumed that it was a
suicide but as deceased's wrist was cut and the things in the room were found
disturb indicating a foul play.

The case was blind for the investigation team, the police as initial inquiries
failed to trace any dispute and were Clueless about the motive.

Mumbai Police registered a murder case and started a probe and during the
course of the investigation, police got hold of a CCTV footage of an
unidentified person entering the same hotel room where the victim dead body
was found. But the man caught on camera had cleverly concealed himself from
the CCTV camera.

Further, in the investigation, the police team picked up deceased's friend
Martin. "Martin was supposed to come along with Satish but he dropped the plan
at last moment which had raised a suspicion.

In interrogation, Martin revealed, the victim had suffered huge losses in the
gold jewellery business. He owed 16 kgs of gold and got bankrupt of his a
housing and personal loan.

By then another team, then traced Satish travel plan and got hold of CCTV
footages of bus depots in Coimbatore wherein deceased was found moving with
two other persons later identified as Mohammed Riyaz and Sarvanam two noted
criminals.

Mumbai Police started looking for Sarvanam and found that he was already in
central jail in Tamil Nadu. Then Police moved the court for Sarvanam custody
and it was Sarvanam who spill beans on Riyaz.

After arresting Riyaz during interrogations narrated the entire story. He told
that deceased Satish had suffered losses in gold business and the jewellers
were after him and were also the banks. Satish and others hatched a plot to
carry a robbery and kidnapping in Tamil Nadu. ``Satish even paid supari money
to Riyaz and Sarvanam to do robbery but their plan flopped. Then Satish and
Riyaz decided to go to Mumbai and commit suicide.

"Satish had planned that if he commits suicide all the problems will end but
at the same time Satish said that if he commits suicide his family will not
get insurance money and hence decided to make his suicide as murder," said,
DCP Shahji Umap.

On January 14, Satish and Riyaz entered the lodge taking care that his face
does not come from the CCTV camera. He entered the room and as per plan,
Satish cut his wrist after which Riyaz tied his hands with a rope and then he
fled away locking the door from outside. Before fleeing, Riyaz took away Rs 4
lakh cash which Satish has promised him. Riyaz also disturb the things in the
room to make it appear a robbery.

"Now it is assumed that after Riyaz left, Satish freed his hands and then off
the fan and then tied a piece of cloth to the ceiling fan and to this we have
found fingerprints of deceased's hands on the fan button as well on the
ceiling fan indicating that he himself hanged," said Shahji Umap.

Police said that they will soon convert the IPC sections of 302 to 306 of
compelling to commit suicide against all the three accused.
