JAIPUR: With a well-coordinated effort involving Kolkata and Bangladesh Police teams, the Jaipur Police on Thursday arrested three persons allegedly involved in the dacoity, attempt to murder and rape case that shocked a Vaishali Nagar family on September 19.
Despite facing humiliation, the police through its 16 specialized teams cracked the case and confirmed that two more Bangladeshis were involved and would be arrested soon.
As reported by TOI on Wednesday that a Windows phone proved handy for the police to crack the case, cops in Jaipur corroborated that the Windows phone which was stolen from the house in Vaishali Nagar and photographs taken by the gadget led the police to zero in on the accused. Rafiq, an accused, was arrested from Khulna in Bangladesh.
Elated with the breakthrough, Junga Sriniwas Rao, police commissioner, told the media on Thursday evening that Jaipur Police worked overnight to decode the case which involved everything from scientific to conventional policing. "It was a huge challenge for us to piece together vital clues. We prepared 16 specialized units in which we also involved our men who were well versed with Bangladeshi gangs. It is established that five persons had planned and executed the attempt to murder and dacoity and two in the gang were involved in the rape," said Rao.
He said the accused began planning since September 13 when Rafiq, 23, Mintu, 24 and Sohag, 22 came to Jaipur to visit their friends Salim, 23 and Arif, 22."Salim and Arif were living in Jaipur for a long time and were part of a professional gang. They had carried out recce at various localities while working as scrap dealers. On September 13, their accomplices from Bangladesh Mintu, 24, Rafiq and Sohag, 22 came to Jaipur and chalked out a plan to commit the dacoity at a house in Chitrakut locality, in Vaishali Nagar."
"As a matter of strategy, all the five huddled at a neighbouring vacant plot at 2am on September 19 just an hour before they struck by dismantling the window grill of the kitchen. Salim and Arif who were arrested from Jaipur and Mathura respectively, told us that following their recce, they had planned to strike between 3 am and 4.30 am which was the 'suitable' time. They walked towards the highway after the incident and later went in different locations. They were later faciliated by locals to reach Jaisinghpura," Rao added.
During the probe, on September 20, the police had found SIM cards of stolen mobiles near Jaisinghpura. "Our team spoke to some Bangladeshis in the areas and came to know that three persons from Bangladesh had come to visit Salim and Arif on September 13. Since all of them were missing, our suspicion grew stronger."
"Our teams were already studying the activity of the Widnows phone and its application and we found that some photographs taken by the smartphone matched with the sketches we had made. We took the help of Kolkata Police who helped us in connecting with their Bangla counterpart. One Rafiq has been arrested by Khulna Police in Bangladesh with the stolen Windows phone," Rao added.
Rafiq will be brought to India after the extradition paperwork is over.
He said two others, including Mintu and Sohag, would be nailed down soon. "At least seven persons in various parts of the country facilitated the gang. They will also be arrested for criminal conspiracy."

Robbers beat up family, rape woman in Jaipur
Four armed robbers barged into a house of a retired engineer in the wee hours of Friday, beat up the family members and allegedly raped a woman before decamping with jewellery and cash.
A case has been lodged at Vaishali Nagar police station.
Additional deputy commissioner of police (West) Karan Sharma said the gang gained entry into the house in Chitrakoot locality of the state capital by breaking open the kitchen window at around 3am.
The house belongs to a retired engineer who was admitted to Sawai Mansingh Hospital with a fractured leg.
The police said the robbers had locked up the engineer and his son in separate rooms before allegedly raping a 33-year-old woman, who was sleeping with her two children.
There were no major injury marks on the woman’s body. However, her medical examination has been conducted at Kanwatia Hospital. Reports are awaited to confirm whether she was raped, they said.
In the complaint lodged at Vaishali Nagar police station, the family members claimed that robbers decamped with 12 grams of gold, jewellery, Rs 10,000 and six cellphones.
The police suspect the involvement of labourers who were hired for painting and renovation of the house.
