Amritsar, June 21 (YP Bureau)
A child kidnapped from Amritsar has been killed. The Police have recovered the body of the child from a Canal near Khalra and arrested five out of the six accused in the case including a woman.
Interestingly and unfortunately the kidnappers and the killers are related to the family. One of them lives in the neighbourhood of the killed child.
A pall of gloom descended the holy city, especially the area, where the unfortunate family lives.
10 year old Sushant Arora alias Karam son of Sushil Arora, from a middle-class family, had gone missing on Wednesday, 11th of June from near his residence at Gali Telian, Gate Hakiman in Amritsar.
R P Mittal, Police Commissioner of Amritsar addressing media at Police lines said that though the child was kidnapped on 11th of June the family informed the police only on 13th of June. However, the abductors had killed the child, the day he was kidnapped.
He said that it was height of insensitiveness and cruelty that even after kiilling the child, the kidnappers continued to ask for ransom and threaten the family. The kidnappers first demanded a ransom of Rs. One crore but later wanted to have at least Rs. 50 lakh to let the child go, who was dead by then.
The child had gone to play cricket with his friends and didn’t return home. Later the family got calls threatening them not to report the matter to police. A case regarding abduction of the child was registered at Police Station Gate Hakiman.
Those arrested include Harpreet Happy, Gagandeep Singhy, Sukhchain Singh, Palwinder Singh and Sarabjit Kaur. One accused by the name of Prince is said to be absconding.
The family however, informed police which sounded a Red Alert and searched frantically for the child.
The father of the child told media that the kidnappers were demanding a ransom of Rs. One Crore and had asked him to paste posters in a nearby Chowk when the amount was ready.
