Haqiqat: Irfan goes missing few days after Mauseen's missing Part 2
The Thane crime branch on Wednesday found the remains of Shabbir Shaikh, who along with Sohail Qureshi (20), both Mumbra residents, had gone missing since May 17 this year. Shabbir was found decapitated and his body was dug up at a hillock in the Iltanpada area of Digha village in Navi Mumbai, while his head was found in a nearby lake.
Two arrested in connection with the disappearance have confessed to the murder of Sohail and are expected to lead the police to the spot where his body has been dumped.
The gory chain of events came to light after Sohail’s mother Khatun approached police earlier this month complaining that she suspects her son, who had been missing since May 17, has been murdered.
Khatun told The Indian Express, “After he did not return for a few days, I initially went to Mumbra police station where they told me that since he is a 20-year-old boy, he may have gone to Ajmer dargah with friends and will return soon.”
Khatun saw merit in what the police said and held on for nearly a month before Shabbir’s mother Hasina approached her saying that both their sons have been murdered by their friends over a dispute regarding money obtained from selling some stolen booty. Hasina claimed a common friend of Sohail and Shabbir had told this to her and added that the duo had been buried in a forest in Digha village.
After a few months, Khatun again approached police and told them about what Haseena told her about her son having been killed. Senior inspector Nitin Thakre and sub-inspector Bhujbal started probing the matter and questioned the common friend who told police that one Deepak Valmiki alias Sam and Mohammad Chaudhari alias Babu were behind the murder.
We interrogated the duo who told us that Valmiki was having an affair with Shabbir’s sister and Shabbir and Sohail were opposed to it, an officer said. “This led to a fight between them and the duo along with three others murdered Shabbir, decapitated him, buried his body near a hillock in Digha village and disposed of his head in a nearby lake,” Thakre said.
Since they confessed to having dug up their bodies in Digha, we went along and found the remains of Shabbir.
“They claim to have murdered Sohail in April and Shabbir in August. However, we are yet to find the details of Sohail’s murder,” the officer said. A case of murder and destruction of evidence has been registered against the five accused.
