The crime branch on Thursday claimed to have solved the murder case of
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker Vasant Jhota, 52, whose body was found at
his office in Dharavi on February 19.
The police said a woman, Poonam Sahani, 19, who was sexually abused by Jhota,
instigated two men Mohammad Khalil Abdul Rasul Sheikh, 33, her neighbour and
his friend Mohammad Talah to commit the crime.
The crime branch arrested Sheikh and Talah, 22, while the Dharavi police
arrested Sahani.
Sahani’s 15-year-old sister, who was allegedly present during the crime, was
also apprehended and the police are seeking legal opinion about sending her to
a reforms centre.
Joint commissioner of police, crime, Himanshu Roy said, the accused revealed
that the murder was carried out after he was instigated by Sahani, who had
been sexually exploited by Jhota. Sahani told the police that she did this to
save the honor of her younger sister who Jhota had set his eyes on, Roy
added.
The police have recovered the murder weapon, a commando knife, minted by
Sheikh specifically for the job. They also recovered a mobile phone, which
Shaikh took from Jhota’s office.
Explaining how the murder was solved, Roy said the crime branch was tipped off
about Shiekh and Talah’s involvement in the murder and swiftly detained them
for questioning. Roy said Khalil revealed that Jhota was sexually exploiting
Poonam by taking advantage of her poverty. “He would give her money and food
grains in exchange for sexual favours,” he said.
Prabhakar Satam, assistant commissioner of police (Kurla division), said
Poonam initially contacted Jhota in 2010, because she wanted to get her name
included in the ration card after her family shifted residence.
Sahani told the police that Jhota demanded favours from her in return for
including her name in the ration card. Jhota then asked Sahani to get her
sister along with her, the police said.
Roy said after this, Poonam confided in Khalil, who lives in her
neighbourhood, who later roped in Talah. The police said that on February 19,
Poonam went to Jhota’s office along with her sister. Jhota allegedly took the
girl to another room. Meanwhile, Khalil and Talah, who came on a motorcycle,
entered the house. Khalil then stabbed Jhota thrice before fleeing with the
mobile phone and Rs10,200 cash.

की नजर जब लड़की की छोटी बहन पर भी पड़ी तो बात बिगड़ गई। जो लड़की गरीबी को
मिटाने के लिए अब तक अपना जिस्म बेच रही थी, उसने अपनी बहन की आबरू बचाने की
खातिर अपने साथियों के साथ मिलकर उसका कत्ल करवा दिया। यह कहानी है धारावी मर्डर
केस की, जिसमें 52 साल के एक व्यक्ति को अपने जिस्म की भूख मिटाने के लिए अपनी
जान गंवानी पड़ी।
19 फरवरी को वसंत धीरजलाल जोटा (52) की धारावी ग्रेन डीलर्स के ऑफिस में लाश मिली
थी, क्राइम ब्रांच यूनिट-4 ने इस मामले में गुरुवार को 2 आरोपियों को हत्या के
आरोप में गिरफ्तार किया, तब इस केस की कहानी की सचाई से पर्दा उठा।
क्राइम ब्रांच के अनुसार, मर्डर के आरोप में गिरफ्तार मो. खलील शेख (33) और मो.
तलाह (22) ने अपने बयान में बताया है कि 19 साल की एक लड़की के कहने पर उन्होंने
वसंत की हत्या की है। क्राइम ब्रांच को आरोपियों ने बताया कि वसंत जोटा धारावी
में रहने वाली रेखा (बदला हुआ नाम) का शारीरिक शोषण करता था और बदले में उसे
रुपये और राशन का सामान देता था। आरोपियों के क्राइम ब्रांच को दिए गए बयान के
आधार पर जब वसंत की बुरी नजर रेखा की 13 वर्षीय बहन पर पड़ी तब रेखा ने इसकी
शिकायत मो. खलील से की। मो. खलील ने वसंत की हत्या करने के लिए अपने वर्कशॉप पर
धारदार हथियार तैयार किया और अपनी साथी मो. तलाह के साथ मिलकर मौका-ए-वारदात की
रेकी की।
कैसे दिया था वारदात को अंजाम
क्राइम ब्रांच के अनुसार, 19 फरवरी को रेखा अपने छोटी बहन के साथ वसंत के दफ्तर
पहुंची जहां वसंत रेखा की छोटी बहन को एक कमरे में लेकर गया। उसी दौरान प्लान के
मुताबिक, दोनों आरोपी वसंत के ऑफिस पहुंचे, जिनके लिए रेखा ने दरवाजा खोला और
आरोपी जब कमरे में घुसे तो वसंत को आपत्तिजनक हालत में पाया। आरोपियों ने बताया
कि वसंत को इस अवस्था में देखकर उनका खून खौल गया और उन्होंने वहीं उसे मौत के
घाट उतार दिया। वारदात को अंजाम देने के बाद आरोपी वसंत के दफ्तर से 10,200 रुपये
और मोबाइल लेकर फरार हो गए। बहरहाल पुलिस ने दोनों आरोपियों को गिरफ्तार कर लिया
है। क्राइम ब्रांच के अनुसार, इस मामले में कानूनी सलाह लेने के बाद रेखा और उसकी
बहन को भी गिरफ्तार किया जा सकता है। मृतक वसंत जोटा ने धारावी क्षेत्र के एक
उम्मीदवार के लिए बीएमसी चुनावों से पहले प्रचार भी किया था।
